What We Do
Heart of God in Haiti is working with Helping for Christ to provide an education to the children of the working poor in Port Au Price, Haiti. Helping for Christ runs a Christian day school that teaches the children the Bible in addition to math, reading, French, geography and Haitian history. Each day the children come, they are learning the skills they need to provide for themselves and their families when they get older. In addition, they are being taught about the love of God and our savior, Jesus Christ.
We currently have 200* children enrolled in our Christian day school. Although the school charges only $7 per month for tuition, most of the families are unable to pay. However, we do not turn these children away. In exchange for the education their children receive, those parents who cannot afford to pay agree to volunteer at the school when needed and also attend weekly church services. This ensures that the entire family is hearing the saving message of the gospel.
In addition to helping the children of our school, Helping for Christ is also reaching out to the street children of Port Au Prince. Although the dream of operating a children’s home for these children is not yet a reality, the members of Helping for Christ are still willing to help. To date, the team members have taken in 18 children who were living on the streets, providing them with a home and loving care. All these children also attend Helping for Christ’s Christian school, receiving an education and learning about the love of God.
